Colloquially known as the ‘fight or flight’ response and commonly referred to as stress, our bodies reaction to our sympathetic nervous system is something we’ve all experienced. At times it can help push us towards greatness, but at others it can make us crumble and fall. An evolutionary throw back to our hunter-gatherer past it has helped keep us alive and reproducing for the last 200,000 years, but what happens when you can’t turn it off? A new take on New Year’s resolutions

A new take on New Years resolutions

I’ve always had a bit of a love / hate relationship with New Year and everything that goes with it.
While I understand the cathartic nature of starting anew, I’ve always thought that if you want to change something in your life, whether it be yourself, your job, your health, your relationships with others, the best time to do it is surely now and not an arbitrary date on the calendar. But I also understand that the need to step away from the old and embrace the new sometimes requires that extra little impetus, that thing that only something like a New Year can bring. Hence the love / hate situation.

Over the years I’ve made many New Years resolutions and like the majority of people out there there’s generally a theme, in essence they’re the same ones every year……..

– lose weight
– eat healthier
– do more exercise
– watch less TV
– stop procrastinating

So even though this year the resolutions are much the same, my approach is going to be ever so slightly different……. and it’s all down to Disney.
